In late 2007, a mammoth amount of webmasters went into shock - their sites were banned from Google.
Google had been warning for some time that a heavy hand would be swiping the cheeks of webmasters who were trying to cheat the system to reach higher positions in the Google Search Engine.
And they did as they promised. It is the price webmasters paid for fast and sloppy link-building by making use of automatic link-building services. For a few bucks, a blog network owner would publish your link in 100's of blogs within minutes. The content could even be automatically spun to try to cheat Google into believing each post was unique content. But Google was not deceived.
A lot of webmasters fell in love with the idea of getting 100's of links built up overnight, and they invested heavily in such link-building services. Webmaster forums all over the web were running wild with people begging for a shot at this fast and painless scheme.
But in the last page-rank update, the price was paid. The first to be banned were the sites which offered the service. They vanished from Google search engines overnight. Next, will be their clients. If you are one of those who fell for these easy schemes, you may not be served such a heavy hand, but I'll tell you what you'll feel - nothing. A huge nothing! You will have thrown money into the garbage bag. But, you will also have to work harder to build better backlinks to your URL to make up for the fact that your URL is now being backlinked from a banned site!
So, what is left for you to do now? How do you build backlinks? Are we to return to the dark ages where building backlinks was a manual thing? Yes!
Manual link-building really is the only way to strengthen your site. Its tough work. It takes ages to get it done. But its the only way your site will start ranking higher in search engines.
Unfortunately, however, webmasters are having a hard time adapting to this reality. Those who were used to automatic link-building services just don't seem to grasp the difference between automatic and manual.
The first thing that seems difficult for them to grasp is the uncertain timeline that manual link-building means. The second thing taht is not understood is that a manual link-building service provider cannot provide automatic reports of all backlinks built in a manual way. It is simply too time-consuming. Then, the cost of a manual link-building service is indeed much more expensive.
But manual link-building is the only way left. So it is imperative that you understand just how manual link-building works.
Careful link-building
The most important factor when deciding which site to publish backlinks in is to choose sites who have human editors. Whether you're submitting your links to a directory or to an article site, it is important that a human editor checks all submissions before publishing them. Why? Because human editors delete spam. Nobody wants their links published in sites with spam!
Human editors can take some time to approve your submission, and because of this, it takes longer for your links to appear. But it is oh so important!
What to expect from the report of a manual link-building program
An automatic link-building system will provide you with a fantastically informative report showing exactly which page your backlinks have been published in. A manual report, on the other hand, can hardly do that unless you pay the service provider a hefty extra. In our case, it is simply too time-consuming to do this. This is because we submit to article sites and directories who have human editors. This means that although we may submit your article today, it can take anything from an hour to a month for your backlinks to get published.
Besides, it is so much easier for you to track your backlinks directly through Google or Yahoo!
The uncertainty of time
In an automatic service you know exactly when your backlinks will be published. In a manual submission program, you can only guess. This is especially true if you choose a good link-building service provider who submits only to human-edited article sites and directories. A submission you make today may be published within hours, days or weeks. It depends on how busy the site's editor is. But this is another advantage of manual link-building, because your links appear progreessively and slowly. And Google gives your site credit for sporadic link-building.
How long it takes to build good links manually
Try it for yourself. Build 10 unique backlinks to your site and time yourself. You'll understand how tedious and long manual link-building is.
In the days of automatic link-building, you could buy 1,000 backlinks in minutes. iIf you fell for this scheme, either you have already felt the heavy hand of Google or you will feel it in the next update. There's no cheating Google!
Because link-building must be gradual, we have now broken down our link-building program to a 13-week plan, throughout which we slowly build up backlinks to your site. Its the only way to go.
The cost of a manual link-building program
Ok, it can be much more expensive, but do consider the work that goes into it in comparison with automatic link-building. Shop around. You'll find prices going from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars for 1,000 manual backlinks.
We actually offer one of the lowest prices on the web. Check it out.
There's something else that manual link-building wins over automatic link-building. Given the careful, progressive link-building in a manual program, a good link-building program will build links that will have a long-term effect on your site's growth. You don't want to pay a single cent for a program that will only give you a limited boost in search engines. You want a program that offers the long-term effect. And this is where link propagation comes in.
